A Message from Ken and Jayne

We hope that you are all looking forward to a well-deserved long weekend. As you are aware this Monday 6th November is a student free Curriculum Day. Teachers will be focussing on reporting and assessment in preparation for end of year reports. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to spend quality time with your children. Please note, the school office will be closed.

The Colour Explosion is fast approaching with only 4 weeks to go. We encourage you to continue with fundraising for the event as all money raised will go towards the purchase of new IT equipment to support learning throughout the school. Fundraising closes on Friday 17th November.

It is hard to believe it is only 6 and a half weeks until the end of the school year. It is a busy time with various events happening leading up to Christmas and end of year so please keep your eye on Compass and the Newsletter to ensure you are up to date and able to join us for the school’s community events.

Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday 8th November.

Indonesian News

The grade 5/6 students have a project called ‘In A Box’ where they must find 5 interesting things about Indonesia and present them to the class. They are able to work individually or in pairs. So far students have  cooked Indonesian food, brought in souvenirs, presented slide shows and played videos.

Here are a examples of the things that have been presented to the class:

volcanoes     dances    sporting events     batik making      famous places and landmarks

currency       flora        native animals       marine life              mask making

clothing        culture

The grade 3/4 students have been looking at 'Pakaian'-'Clothing'. They are learning the Indonesian names for different items of clothing through a variety of activities and games. Individually or in small groups they are currently designing an outfit. They will then be required to create it using fabric and write descriptive sentences in Indonesian.

The grade 1/2 students  have been looking at the picture story book ‘Membeli Topeng’ - ‘Buying masks’ where they have been orally translating the Indonesian text into English. They have also been matching Indonesian words to English words and filling the gap with the correct word to make a sentence. The students are currently creating their own mask from the story

The Prep students are learning how to count to twenty through a variety of games and songs. They have been looking at the concepts of ‘panjang’ ‘long’ and ‘pendek’ ‘short’. As a class we have been reading familiar texts (English readers) in Bahasa (Indonesian). The students have been orally translating the text into English and creating their own page for a class book.

Bikes & Scooters in the School Grounds

We are seeking your assistance to ensure the safety of our children within the school grounds. We have noticed a number of scooters and bikes are being ridden in busy areas of the school and ask that parents and students please walk their bikes and scooters when inside the school grounds.

Our primary concern is the safety of all children, especially the smaller ones who may be hurt if they are hit. It is also important that we set a positive example for our children and model the behaviours we expect from them.

Thank you for your support to maintain a safe and nurturing environment for our students.
