Upcoming Student Free Days
Curriculum Day – Next Friday 27th May is a Curriculum Day. On this day, staff will be engaging in professional learning and assessment moderation.
Professional Practice Day – For Term 2, 2022, the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated Professional Practice Day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day and assist with managing replacement teachers across the state.
As a result, we have scheduled our professional practice day for Monday, June 6th. This has been endorsed by our School Council. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on this day.
If you need care for your child, our OSHC provider TheirCare are available on this day.
School Council Report
The following school policies have been updated and approved by School Council:
These policies can be found in the ‘about’ tab on our website or by clicking on the policy name above.
NAPLAN
Over the past fortnight, our Year 3 and 5 students have completed the Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language and Numeracy NAPLAN assessments. Congratulations to all students for your hard work and persistence in completing these assessments. We anticipate that results will be available in the second half of Term 3.
Supervision Before and After School
Student safety at Bonbeach Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.
Before school: School grounds are supervised from 8:45am-9:00am.
After school: School grounds are supervised from 3:30-3:45pm.
Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).
Families are encouraged to contact TheirCare for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.
Semester One Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Semester One reports will be available via Compass on Thursday 23rd June. As Term 2 this year is a short (9 week) term, we will be holding Parent Teacher Interviews in the first week of Term 3. More details regarding dates/times and bookings will be provided towards the end of term.
Cold and Flu and Student Illness
With borders opening and the arrival of colder weather, cases of influenza (the flu) are increasing throughout Victoria. Our community is at risk of higher rates of students and staff affected by the flu or COVID-19 this season.
What to do if your child gets sick
To help keep your child and our school community safe, please take the following steps if your child has any cold or flu-like symptoms:
Rapid Antigen Testing
RATs will continue to be distributed to you as they have been throughout this school year for the remainder of this term.
However, from Monday 23 May 2022, students will no longer be recommended to undertake twice weekly RATs.
RATs however will continue to be required by students who are household contacts to attend school (5 negative tests over a 7 day period) or who have symptoms.
The ongoing supply of RATs to families in our school will ensure that parents and carers will have them should they need them if their child is a household contact or has symptoms.
Families must continue to notify the Department of Health and the school if their child returns a positive RAT result. Additionally, you should inform us if any of your children are household contacts.
Uniform Shop
The uniform shop is usually open on the 1st Friday of each month, however our volunteer who has been doing this, has indicated she may have difficulty on occasion. She will endeavour to still open once a month, however we will issue a Compass notification informing of each opening day and time as this becomes available.
In the meantime, please keep the 2nd hand donations coming, but be aware that we can only accept donations of school uniform items that have the school logo on them.
regards
Ken & Lisa
