Picking students up early or dropping items off during the day
All visitors (including parents) to the school during school hours are required to report to the office in the first instance. We have had a number of parents dropping items off for their children or collecting them early recently. If you need to drop anything off for your child or collect them early, please report to the office, located at the front of the hall, and the office staff will arrange for your child to be dismissed from the room or deliver the item to them. Parents entering classrooms during learning time is distracting for all students and disrupts the lesson occurring at the time.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this.
School Banking
From Term 1 next year, school banking and financial literacy programs provided by financial institutions will be banned in Victorian government schools and replaced by quality school-led programs.
Financial literacy is taught through the mathematics and economics and business learning areas of the Victorian Curriculum Foundation to Level 10.
Why school banking and financial literacy programs are being banned
The findings of the Royal Commission into the Banking and Financial Services Industry highlighted the importance of financial literacy and education in schools and the economic fallout of coronavirus (COVID-19) has further underscored this need.
Students, teachers and families have frequently raised concerns about the quality of education and financial literacy outcomes provided by school banking programs. Concerns have also been raised about banks using inappropriate tactics to increase sales and market to children.
If your child has a school bank account
We have not been doing banking this year due to Covid 19 so some students will have tokens that they will want to redeem.
Students will be able to bring in their books and tokens on Thursday 10th December for one final time to redeem vouchers only. No money will be accepted.
The Commonwealth Bank has a designated School Banking Specialist available to answer any questions you may have in regards to running the program for the remainder of this calendar year. Alternatively, you can contact the School Banking Helpdesk on 1800 674 496 Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm (AEDST).
Starting Time
A reminder that we no longer have staggered start and finish times. It is expected that all students will arrive to school and be in their classrooms by 9:00am. Students are able to continue to go straight into their classrooms from 8:45am. Any student arriving after 9:00am will need to sign in at the office. When a child is at school on time, it allows them to start the day feeling settled and prepared for the day of learning.
Staffing next year
Last week we published the teaching placements for 2021. We inadvertently forgot to add all of Ms Wicks’ roles.
Ms Wicks will be teaching Prep visual arts and also taking Literacy Intervention in 2021.
regards
Ken & Lisa
