A Message from Ken and Lisa

We would have loved to be welcoming back all our students to Term 3 face to face, however, that is not possible at this particular time.

There’s a feeling of déjà vu as we enter this term. At least, this time around we have experienced remote learning and are better prepared for it.

Our staff have been reviewing and reflecting on our last period of remote learning this week and we have made some changes to improve the delivery of remote learning. Teachers will be making contact with families over the first two weeks and as always, we value your feedback. If you have constructive feedback, please let our teachers know this as well!

Although we have all been there before, this situation can still cause stress within the household.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or us if there are issues that the school may be able to assist you with.

It may seem a cliché but we are all in this together and we all want the very best outcomes for our students.

Regards,

Ken and Lisa

A Message from the PE Department

Hello families,

As we are all now aware, remote learning is back, which unfortunately means PE at home. Although, not my preferred option of teaching Physical Education, it is what it is. It’s not forever and we’ll be back in the hall or outside on the oval doing PE again in no time. For this block of remote learning, I’ve structured my lessons a bit differently to last time. All lessons will be posted Monday morning, with students encouraged to pick one activity to do a day. Please read below for each year level description.

Year 5/6:
  • Research task. Grade 5/6 will have a research task related to Physical Education to complete over the course of the remote learning period. The topic is ‘Sport around the world’. More information will be provided in the first lesson plan.
  • Weekly physical activity journal. Students will have a weekly journal to log any physical activity they complete each week.
  • Three structured physical activities. There will be three different activities attached to the lesson plan each week. They will consist of fitness, a game and a Mr Mac Challenge.
Year 3/4:
  • Research task. Grade 3/4 will have a research task related to Physical Education to complete over the course of the remote learning period. The topic is a ‘Sports person’.
Year 1/2:
  • Research task. Grade 1/2 will have a research task related to Physical Education to complete over the course of the remote learning period. The topic is ‘Sports’. More information will be provided in the first lesson plan.
  • Weekly physical activity journal. Students will have a weekly journal to log any physical activity they complete each week.
  • Three structured physical activities. There will be three different activities attached to the lesson plan each week. They will consist of fitness/dance, a game and yoga/mindfulness.
Prep:
  • Fitness/dance warm up. Each week there will be a mixture of a fitness work out or a dance routine for the preps to copy.
  • Fundamental motor skill activity. An activity to do from home working on a FMS.
  • A game will be posted weekly that prep students can play at home.
  • Yoga/Mindfulness. A yoga or mindfulness activity will be posted weekly for prep students to complete at home.
More information on all tasks will be provided in the year level weekly lesson plan on Google Classroom. Like last time, I just need a picture or video of at least one of the activities to be posted to Seesaw each week.

Term 3 is usually the busiest term in regards to school sporting events with; House and District Athletics Day, Prep and Year 3/4 swimming and the Year 5/6 inter-school sport competition. At this stage there is still no formal word from School Sport Victoria on anything being cancelled, but the likelihood is that all sporting events will be cancelled. As soon as I have any information, it will be communicated to parents via the newsletter or compass.

What's happening in Digital Technologies

With remote learning comes some fantastic opportunities to learn about Digital Technologies. During the next phase of remote learning, students from Prep to Grade 6 will be using digital devices and a variety of apps and programs to support their learning.

During Term 3 the Foundation students will be exposed to the Digital Technologies curriculum for the first time. We will be focusing on digital systems by exploring the digital devices in their lives. The students will use Code.org modules to experience coding and they will create solutions to digital problems by creating a sequence of steps.

During Grade 1/2 lessons we will be learning about data. We will explore what data is, how to collect it, and how to present it using digital tools. We will be using tally marks and pictures to record data and we will represent it by making graphs and charts, mostly on Seesaw.

During Grade 3/4 lessons we will be learning about data collection and presentation. The students will create their own surveys, participate in data collection, and then interpret and present their findings using graphs. To tie everything together, the students will present their data in a Google Slides presentation.

During Grade 5/6 lessons we will be learning about spreadsheets and how they can be used. They will be using formulas to make calculations. The students will solve problems, create budgets, and make spreadsheets for specific purposes.
