Celebrating 100 Fantastic Days of Prep

It was an exciting day last Friday for our 2024 Prep students. Since the start of the year they have been counting by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s as the days increased. Finally they reached their milestone of 100 days of Prep and it was the celebration of the century.

This special day is celebrated to recognise the progress that students have made and to celebrate their hard work and dedication. Students, teachers and Bodhi, our therapy dog, dressed up as 100-year-olds and it was a day of fun, celebrations which they shared with friends and family who have supported them in reaching this milestone.

There has been tears, laughter, challenges and many achievements throughout these 100 days, and this has built student’s resilience and enthusiasm. It is hoped that these experiences and lessons will equip Bonbeach Primary’s 55 Prep students with a love of learning which we hope will last a lifetime.

Year 5/6 Camp

Last week Year 5/6 students and teachers rugged up and headed of on an adventure to Sovereign Hill & Creswick Log Cabin Camp. It was 4 days filled with fun and experiences that built trust, confidence and presented challenges that students embraced and worked through.

To compliment the Australian History unit of study 5/6 students are researching, they spent a day and evening at Sovereign Hill experiencing life during the Gold Rush and the Aura Light and Sound show.

Log Cabin Camp enabled students to challenge themselves with adventurous outdoor activities, build new, and strengthen existing friendships, and hone their teamwork skills to achieve their goals.

The nights and mornings were brisk, but the days were warm and sunny, and there was certainly not a shortage of food which seemed to be endless.

Garden News

Bees and bugs were the focus in the garden this week, helping to foster a healthy ecosystem for our garden to thrive.

This week it was the Preps turn to get their hands dirty as they learned all about bees and other pollinators we have in our garden. Each class made a bug hotel to keep pollinators warm during our chilly winter. We now have a creatively designed, multilevel accommodation unit to keep our precious residents warm and safe.

The highlight of the lesson was the exciting bee facts that Amy shared with the students.

Did you know:

  • Bees have 5 eyes
  • Only female bees have a stinger
  • Bees only make half a teaspoon of honey in their entire life (6 weeks)
  • 2 million flowers are visited for bees to make a jar of honey

Who knew that bees put so much work into making honey! They certainly deserve their new, luxurious accommodation.
