A Message from Ken and Jayne

Welcome to the 2024 School Year

It really was wonderful to see how quickly and calmly everyone settled in their classes this week. It was so good to see everyone rested and happy, ready to start the year.

Welcome to both our returning families and our new families. We’re sure that this will be another great year at Bonbeach.

Please keep your eyes out for details of the grade information evenings and the first Parent/ Teacher meetings that are happening very soon.

Thank You

Thank you to the following families who volunteered to assist with caring for the garden and chickens throughout the summer holidays: Kidds, Kiernans, Wallingtons, Brackens, Demarias, Louises, Wantanabes and Fergusons.

Their assistance ensured our garden thrived and the chickens were well cared for throughout the warm weather.

Garden Program BBQ Volunteers Needed

The School Garden Program is running the BBQ at the upcoming Farmers' Market on 11th February 2024 and we are seeking volunteers.

Amy is considering a few great projects and equipment such as a new area where families are able to grow their own food, new gloves, watering cans and other equipment to keep the program running. Funds from the BBQ will assist and ensure the students can continue to enjoy this educational program.

Please complete the Sign-Up form below if you are able to help out on Sunday 11th February. Children are welcome to accompany you and assist with serving customers.

Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Long Hair and Sun Safety

Just a gentle reminder about Hair and Sun safety from our Student Dress Code Policy.

Shoulder length or longer hair is to be tied back to help restrict the spread of nits and lice and for student safety.

School uniform hats must be worn outside from 1st September to 30th April and on any other day prescribed by the school. School uniform hats may also be worn outside of this time period, by parent or student choice. Hats are not to be worn inside.

Students are permitted to wear sunglasses during outdoor activities. Sunglasses should be close-fitting, wrap-around that meet the Australian Standards 1067 and cover as much of the eye area as possible. Extreme hair colours (eg: green, pink or purple) and/or extreme hairstyles are not permitted (exceptions are made for special activity days).

Help your Child Settle into the New 2024 School Year

Regardless of your child’s age or year level it is not unusual for them to have periods of uncertainty when starting a new school year or when facing an unfamiliar experience. The teachers at Bonbeach Primary go above and beyond with a thorough handover process to ensure they are familiar with each child, their academic needs and wellbeing is a priority.

Settling students in and ensuring they are comfortable, develop positive friendships and have a strong rapport with their teachers are vital for academic success. It is also beneficial for home and school to work as a team to ensure your child thrives. Below are a few tips to create positivity and achieve success for each school day:

  • Make sure your child knows who will take them to school and pick them up on the first day.
  • Help your child to organise their clothes, hat, shoes and socks the night before.
  • Help your child to pack their school bag with a snack, drink, lunch and a hat.
  • Place a spare pair of underpants and a change of clothes in a plastic bag. Let your child know these clothes are in their bag in case of any accidents at school.
  • Put sunscreen on your child in the morning if it's needed.
  • Show your child where you will meet them at the end of the school day.
  • At the end of the day talk to your child about what happened at school.
  • Find out about what your child is learning at school. By doing this, you can support your child’s learning and find out how your child is adjusting to school.
  • If your child is having difficulty at school, talk to their teacher. Your child can also say what they think might help them.
  • Keep talking to your child about school. Ask them about their new experiences, what they like and what they find hard.
  • If your child goes to care before or after school, find a way of sharing your child’s school progress with the staff.
  • Share feedback/concerns with your child’s teacher to ensure they are aware and can assist.
  • Organise time for your child and their new friends to play together outside of school or after school in the playground.

regards

Ken and Jayne
