A Message from Ken and Jayne

This week has been a hive of activity, with some amazing activities going on throughout the school.

Senior school students are thoroughly engaged in Design Lab which will be running during Term 4. The Energy Breakthrough Team have been working hard on their presentation and training regularly in preparation for the upcoming Energy Breakthrough Competition at Maryborough on November 14-17. Our aspiring photographers have been learning new skills, exploring the camera and editing features of an iPad and have produced some stunning photos. They are also looking forward to their upcoming photography excursion to Frankston to view and photograph graffiti artwork and the Frankston Pier. The Woodwork group have enjoyed workshops run by Bunnings and are looking forward to participating in activities to further develop their skills at Bunnings in Keysborough. The Jewellery Group have been busy exploring clay, mixing colours and experimenting with various textures.

Middle School Students had a fantastic day visiting the Melbourne Zoo on Tuesday viewing the animals and their environments. The excursion supported their current Design and Technology Unit and experiences, observations and learnings will assist their studies throughout the term.

Junior School students are looking forward to their upcoming excursion to McCrae Homestead as part of their History Unit, Then and Now/Past & Present on October 30th and 31st, depending on their class. A friendly reminder to please ensure you have finalised permission and payment on Compass by tomorrow.

Prep PMP is always lots of fun and the current focus is on developing hand/eye coordination with tailored gross motor activities. Students have also been enjoying Numicon in Maths, which is assisting them to further develop their number skills.

Lunch Orders

Please be aware of the following change to weekly lunch orders to ensure your child does not miss out. The Tuck shop have changed the cut off time for our lunch orders to midnight on the Wednesday. This change comes into effect next week.

Prep/1/2 Athletics Day

Fingers are crossed for fine weather for tomorrow’s Prep to Grade 2 Athletics Day. We welcome parents to come and join us from 9am – 11am on the oval. Any changes due to inclement weather will be published on Compass in the morning.

Punnets/Seedling Trays

It is wonderful growing weather at the moment and Amy has been working with Prep to Grade 2 students in the Garden learning about how and why we compost and making sunflower seed packets to bring home. If you have any empty punnets or seedling trays that you would like to recycle, they would be greatly appreciated for the Garden Program. Please drop them into the Greenhouse.

A Message from the PE Department

Whole School

Athletics

Last term, we held the House Athletics Day for grades 3-6. This day acts as trials for our District Athletics team. We had 53 students make the District Athletics team this year and from that, 21 students were successful in their event(s) and went on to compete in Divisional last week. Unfortunately, we had no place getters, but still a great achievement making it that far. Well done to the 21 that represented the school.

There is a Prep-Grade 2 athletics fun day tomorrow which is being held at school. Students will stay with their classroom teacher and rotate around to seven different fun athletics events, with house points to win for every event. The day will take place on the oval and basketball/netball courts. Students are encouraged to wear their house colours on the day. Parents are also welcome to come and cheer on the students competing.

Grade 5/6

  • This term, grade 5/6 have five inter-school sport games. Three are away, while we have two home games at school. All sports will be played on school grounds except lawn bowls, which will be at Chelsea Bowls Club. Payment for the bus and consent for the away games and lawn bowls can be completed on the Term 4 inter-school sport Compass form now.
  • The inter-school sport fixture for term 4 2023:

27th Oct: Home v Chelsea Heights Primary School

3rd Nov: Away v St Louis Primary School

10th Nov: Away v Edithvale Primary School

17th Nov: Home v Chelsea Primary School

24th Nov: Away v Carrum Primary School

  • In Physical Education lessons this term, Grade 5/6 students will be participating in a unit of volleyball and tennis. Students will have the opportunity to expand upon their learnings about different skills involved and have the opportunity to practise and then play modified matches against each other. They will also complete the beep test again to measure their aerobic capacity and to see if they’ve improved from Term 1.
  • Grade 5/6 students will also have a beach safety day towards the end of term. This day is being run by Bonbeach Lifesaving Club and will be held at the beach. Information for the day will be made available on Compass within the next week or so.

Grade 3/4

  • In Physical Education lessons this term, the Grade 3/4 students will be participating in a unit of net/wall sports, which will consist of volleyball and badminton. They will learn about the different rules, basic skills involved including positioning, and modified game play. They will also complete the beep test again to measure their aerobic capacity and to see if they’ve improved from Term 1.

Grade 1/2

  • In Grade 1/2 this term, students will continue to learn, grow and practise their knowledge of Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) in sport specific and skill based lessons. For this term, Grade 1/2 students will participate in a unit on athletics. A focus will be on learning about the basic rules, skills, and movements associated with running, throwing and jumping events.

Prep

  • The Preps have had a fantastic year thus far in primary physical education. They are continuing to learn new games that incorporate Fundamental Motor Skills including running, dodging, tagging, throwing, jumping and skipping.
  • For this term, the main focus in Prep is on kicking and trapping. Students will have the opportunity to practise different types of kicks, how to trap a moving ball, kicking to a target, using their feet to dribble a ball while using all different sorts of equipment and in different contexts (station work, games, in groups, on their own and outside).

For anything sport or physical education related, please feel free to email me at any time.

Farmers' Market News

October marked the 9th Birthday of the Bonbeach Farmers' Market and was one of the busiest markets to date with over 1700 adults coming through the gates and 87 stall holders selling their goods.

Shoppers were entertained by a surprise flash mob from Casey Priddle Dance School who danced amongst the crowds wowing their audience. Bonbeach Farmers Market body stickers were also handed out to celebrate the day.

Enjoy a snapshot here of the fabulous day enjoyed by all who attended.

The next Farmers Market will be held on Sunday 12th November and will be organised by the Preschool so please sign up to help on the day if you are free. A huge thank you to all the volunteers on Sunday, your assistance was very much appreciated.

2024 Prep Transition at BPS

With excitement, we welcomed the 2024 Prep children and their teddies to BPS on Friday afternoon for their first session in the Prep classrooms with their parents. This was a fantastic opportunity to familiarise them with the school before starting their first Transition session without parents, this Friday.

The Prep rooms were buzzing with laughter and fun as parents chatted and the children and their teddies were engaged in the array of activities available.

We look forward to getting to know the children during the coming 4 Transitions Sessions throughout the term.
