Welcome Back
Welcome back to Term 3. It was lovely to see the excitement and enthusiasm of students as they eagerly returned to school on Monday to greet their friends, teachers and share their holiday adventures.
We look forward to a fantastic Term of teaching and learning, incursions, excursions, sporting events, markets and special events.
Bonbeach Primary School is a great place to be!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held next week on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th July. If you have not already done so, please log onto Compass and book a time to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress and future goals.
Parent Teacher conferences are a valuable opportunity to discuss Semester 1 Reports. It enables teachers to share areas of growth in your child’s learning, identify possible areas of need and suggest next steps to assist your child to achieve future academic and social goals.
Children are happiest and achieve their best when there is a strong partnership between home and school. We encourage you to take the time to meet, discuss and celebrate your child.
Student Illness
It is very important during flu season and during this climate to keep our community safe. If your child is unwell, we respectfully ask that you please keep them at home, to fully recover.
If children are unwell at school, parents will be contacted to come and collect them.
We thank you for your support.
NAIDOC Week
National NAIDOC Week was celebrated from Sunday 2 July – Sunday 9 July 2023. NAIDOC week has a different theme each year and the theme for 2023 was “For Our Elders”.
NAIDOC Week recognises the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People’s contributions to Australian culture. The week provides time for Australians to reflect on the past, good and bad, and learn lessons from it. While we can’t undo the past, we can learn lessons from it for the future, and NAIDOC Week provides the perfect opportunity to do this.
It is important for children to take part in NAIDOC week celebrations, so they can learn to understand, and respect Indigenous groups and their cultures and traditions.
NAIDOC Week is a week of celebrations held across Australia each July. The event celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia and is celebrated by Australians across the country.
The event was curated by NAIDOC, the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, in order to bring together different cultures across Australia and celebrate their achievements. In 1965, the government and Aboriginal groups came together to form the National Aborigines Day Observance Committee (NADOC). In 1975, the NADOC committee decided that Aboriginal Day should instead cover a whole week. In the 1990s, NADOC was expanded to include the Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. From here, the committee became the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC).
Through education and activities, especially this week, children will come to understand the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in helping build Australia into the nation it is today. Teaching children about the practices and beliefs of these other cultures will also help them acknowledge and understand their own place within their community. The event also helps to maintain and grow relationships between different cultures and promotes the multicultural community that we value and respect.
