Parent Teacher Interviews
A reminder that Parent Teacher interviews for parents/carers of students in Years 1-6 are being held next week on Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd February (please note, interviews for students in JKH and MAC will be running on different days in the same week). All interviews will be held at school in each teacher’s classroom. If you require an online meeting, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange this. Bookings through Compass are now closed.
The purpose of these 10 minute interviews is to meet your child's 2023 teacher and for you to share important information about your child that you believe is relevant for the teacher to know.
While some initial academic assessments may have occurred, this will not be complete at this stage. An 'academic' interview will be offered mid-year. Your child's teacher will be able to provide an insight into how your child has settled into the new grade and some early observations.
NAPLAN
From 2023, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for students in Years 3 and 5 will be held in March each year. This year, the NAPLAN test window is between Wednesday 15 March and Monday 27 March. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals and can be used to improve student achievement.
NAPLAN tests are delivered in an online format. This delivers many benefits including:
A public demonstration site is available for schools, teachers, parents, carers and students to familiarise themselves with the online tests.
All eligible students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Catch up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days up to and including Monday 27 March 2023.
Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks.
The NAPLAN testing schedule will be provided to parents of students in Years 3 and 5 closer to the date.
Please speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions regarding NAPLAN.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Has your child been talking about tokens and expectations in the classroom at home? At Bonbeach Primary, we follow the Positive Behaviour for Learning approach (also known as SWPBS – School Wide Positive Behaviour Support). This is an evidence-based framework that is supported by the Victorian Department of Education.
We have a Positive Behaviour for Learning handbook, which explains how we implement this approach at our school. You can access the handbook by clicking on this link or on our website.
We also have a Student Wellbeing and Engagement Policy which outlines our commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for our students. You can access the policy here or on our website.
Farmers’ Market
Our first Farmers’ Market for 2023 was a busy one! We had 1286 adults through the gates and 69 stalls. Thank you to all of the families who came along to support the school and the stall holders.
Thank you to the many Year 1/2 parents/carers who volunteered to support our first Farmers’ Market of 2023 last Sunday. It was fantastic to see many new volunteers. Volunteering at the Farmers’ Market is a great way to support the school and to get to know other families in the school.
This year, $1000 from the funds raised at each market will go directly to the Year level who organised volunteers, for them to purchased resources for students. This month, $1000, will be going to the Year 1/2 area.
Thank you to: Oliver A, Archie M, Bridget W, Neil E, Jason T, Shaun S, Sarah O, Heath W, Kerri T, Megan K, Clarie D, Nicky P, Danielle B, Simone H, Rebecca E, Rhianon M, Jon C, Amy, Jody SC for your support on the day.
Our next market will be held on Sunday 12th March. Our Year 5/6 team will be organising volunteers for this market. If you are available to assist with set up, pack up or on gate collection, please complete this Google form https://forms.gle/esHQgCWf4qztX5on8
