A Message from Ken and Lisa

Welcome to the 2023 school year

We hope everyone has had a great holiday and will have a rewarding and successful 2023.

We have noticed a lot of smiles on the first day (mainly parents!) and the classes have all started brilliantly!

We’re sure it will continue this way and look forward to a busy and happy year at school.

Assembly

Our first assembly will be on Friday 10th February, commencing at 2:45pm. The earlier start is due to the presentation of leadership badges by Sonya Kilkenny, our local member of parliament, to our school leaders.

Tuck Shop Lunches

The school is again using Bonbeach Tuck Shop to supply student lunches on Fridays this year,

Details on how to order lunches, the menu, etc. are all on the link on the front page of the Bonbeach web site.

Annual privacy reminder

Our school collects, uses, discloses and stores student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy.

Please take time to remind yourself of our school’s collection notice, found on our website or by clicking on this link.

For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents

Student injuries / accidents

Please be aware that the Department of Education does not provide accident insurance or ambulance cover for students. Parents/carers of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover, are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance or transport as well as any other transport costs.

Parents/carers can purchase insurance policies from commercial insurers.

Yard Supervision

The yard is supervised by school staff before school from 8:45-9:00am and after school from 3:30-3:45pm. Students should not be arriving to school unsupervised by a parent/carer prior to 8:45am. Parents of students who have not been collected by 3:45pm will be contacted and the children taken to after school care.

Student Mobile Phones

In accordance with the Department’s Mobile Phones Policy, issued by the Minister for Education, personal mobile phones must not be used by students at Bonbeach Primary School during school hours, including lunchtime and recess, unless an exception has been granted.

Where a student has been granted an exception, the student must use their mobile phone for the purpose for which the exception was granted, and in a safe, ethical and responsible manner.

Mobile phones owned by students are considered valuable items and are brought to school at the owner’s (student’s or parent/carer’s) risk.  Students are encouraged not to bring a mobile phone to school unless there is a compelling reason to do so.

Students who do need to bring their mobile phone to school and do not have an exception, are required to hand in their phone to the office when they arrive at school. This will be stored securely in the office for the day until it is collected by the student at the end of the day.

For more information, please see our Mobile Phones Student Use Policy and Personal Property Policy.

Kiss and Go Parking Zones

To assist with parking during drop off and pick up times, two ‘Kiss and Go’ zones are located in the parking bays around the school. One is located on Cirrus Street near the main entrance and the other on Coast Banksia Drive near the Junior Playground. We ask all families to please observe the Kiss & Go zone rules to ensure safe and efficient student drop off. If you need to walk your child in or be in the grounds to pick them up, please do not park in the Kiss& Go zone.

Kiss & Go Rules:

  • Kiss & Go rules operate between 8-9:30am and 2:30-4:00pm school days.
  • You may stop to drop off or pick up children for a maximum of 2 minutes.
  • The driver must remain in or within 3 metres of the vehicle.

Parent Teacher Interviews – Years 1-6

On Tuesday 21st February and Thursday 23rd February, we will be holding 10 minute ‘Meet the teacher’ interviews for parents/carers of students in Years 1-6.  Interviews for Prep students will be held following their Prep entrance testing session. This time will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher for 2023, discuss how they have settled into the new school year and for you to share information about your child that you think will assist their teacher to support them throughout 2023.

Due to some of our new staff attending Professional Learning on Tuesday 21st February, interview days for JKH and MAC will differ slightly.

JKH interviews will be held on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd February.

MAC interviews will be held on Monday 21st and Thursday 23rd February.

Our February Parent Teacher Interviews will be held at school in each class teacher’s classroom. If you require an online meeting, please contact your child’s teacher to request this after booking a time through Compass.

Bookings for interview timeslots will open on Compass on Monday 6th February.

Year Level Information Evenings

Next week, each year level will be holding an information session to provide you with information relevant to the year level and an opportunity to meet the team and ask any questions you may have.

Each information session will be held at school.

The information sessions will start at 6:00pm on the following days and locations:

Monday 6th February – Prep in the Learning Centre

Tuesday 7th February – Year ½ in the Learning Centre

Wednesday 8th February – Year 3/4 in portable room 11/12

Thursday 17th February – Year 5/6 in the STEM room

Parents and Friends Committee

Our first Parents and Friends Committee meeting will be held next Tuesday 7th February at 9:00am. Parents or Friends of Bonbeach who may be interested in getting involved in the P&F this year are encouraged to come along to find out more about what this committee does. At this meeting on Tuesday, the committee will be planning their calendar of events for 2023.

A Message from the PE Department

Hello Parents/Guardians,

Grade 3-6 swimming trials are taking place next week. THIS IS NOT COMPULSORY. These trials are to assist with putting together a team for the District Swimming Sports later in the term.

This is competitive swimming not swimming lessons.
Swimming lessons will be later in the year. Please only give consent and payment to the event if you believe that your child can competently/competitively swim 50 metres in freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke or butterfly.

It would be a good idea to have a conversation with them first, to see if they’d like to try out and if they think they can swim competitively nonstop for 50m.

Any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email corey.mccormack@education.vic.gov.au
