Welcome Back
It was great to see everyone back, refreshed and ready to go on Monday. This is a slightly longer term of just over 11 weeks. It’s just as well because there are lots of things happening. Make sure you keep an eye on Compass and the newsletter to keep up with all the events.
Thunderstorm Asthma
Grass pollen season, which runs from October to December each year, brings an increase in asthma and hay fever symptoms. It also increases the risk of thunderstorm asthma. For people with asthma or hay fever, especially those who experience wheezing or coughing with their hay fever, thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening.
We will implement a range of measures to keep our school community safe when the risk of thunderstorm asthma increases.
Many of our staff are trained in asthma first aid, and we will monitor the VicEmergency app to receive thunderstorm warnings, and, where appropriate, keep students indoors when weather forecasts identify greater level of risk.
During pollen season, there are some things you can do to prepare and protect yourself and your family:
Protect yourself this pollen season – managing asthma and allergies matters.
It is important for students to manage any hay fever or asthma symptoms, as these conditions can produce symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, and loss or change to sense of smell or taste, which are similar to COVID-19 symptoms.
If your child experiences these symptoms in different or worse ways to their usual hay fever or asthma symptoms, medical advice should be sought.
On days of heightened thunderstorm asthma risk, we will be following Department of Education advice and closing windows and doors.
For more information, visit your general practitioner (GP) or visit the Better Health Channel.
Divisional Athletics Day
Good luck to all our students competing at the Divisional Athletics Sports next Thursday 13th October.
We hope you all have fun and that the weather is good for the day.
Scholastic Book Club
As you may or may not be aware, our Bookclub coordinator has left the school.
We need a volunteer to take over this valuable role or the school will be unable to continue to offer the Bookclub program to our students.
It would be a great pity if this was to be discontinued because the students derive a great deal of pleasure ordering their books and the school would also miss out on resources from the company.
There will be training available for anyone interested in taking over this role and it is not an arduous or time-consuming role. Please contact the office if you are interested in helping out.
regards
Ken & Lisa

The new date is next THURSDAY 13TH OCTOBER. All other details remain the same.
If you have any questions or queries please feel free to email me corey.mccormack@education.vic.gov.au

Hello, we are the Energy Breakthrough 2022 team,
You might be wondering what Energy Breakthrough is. Well, a quick definition is that it's a group of 10 boys and 10 girls who race in human powered vehicles and pushcarts. We will be competing in Maryborough in 6 weeks time. We have to be really fit and learn to race around obstacles and on a proper race track. It’s going to be lots of fun.
For the next five weeks, every Wednesday at recess, we will be holding a stall to fundraise for our Energy Breakthrough uniforms, equipment and other necessities. This stall will be for all students from prep to grade six. At the stall, we will be selling food such as Popcorn, Icy Poles , and a guess the amount of jelly beans competition. Each week we will be selling different things to keep it exciting and new for the students.
Students can bring money with them to school each Wednesday and enjoy the treats on offer.
Thanks for supporting our team,
Asha, Summer, Griffin, Mia, Kailani, Sienna, Bridget, Leo.F, Leo.G, Declan, Lucas, Baxter, Ewan, Sophie, Emma, Charlotte, Samuel, Tilli, Mapalo, Frank, Ms McCallum, Mr Cook and Mr Jones.
Across the country, coast to coast, farmers markets are providing people with fresh, locally sourced food and bringing communities together. We are just one of them!
As we work to transform the local food system, our goal is to ensure our market works the best it can for growers and makers, as well as the families they support. At the end of the day, we want to continue making more nutritious, local food available to the community.
Profits from the market - (run voluntarily by the school community) have now provided the school grounds with many improvements, not only for the playground area but also for the many market goers.
The school looks forward to celebrating its eighth birthday this Sunday, and we have organised lots of activities for the kids, live music and everybody’s favourite, the Rain Hayne and Shine animal farm!
Coming into our 8th year, it’s clear our stallholders are providing the community with food security and growing their role as essential sources of healthy food.
Thanks to our wonderful community for their ongoing support to our amazing stallholders. See you Oct 9th!
