Updated Covid-19 advice

You may be aware that the Victorian Government has announced changes to the COVID-19 isolation requirements.

This means that from 11.59pm on Wednesday 12 October, the mandatory orders around isolation for people with COVID-19 have ended and instead we move to health advice and recommendations for people with COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms.

Our school will continue to adhere to the Department of Health’s recommendations to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for our staff and students.

The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:

  • who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic
  • who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.

Parents and carers are recommended to continue to report their child having COVID-19 to both the school and the Department of Health.

We will, however, no longer report occurrences of positive cases to the school community.

We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.

Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them.

Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school.

Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so.

To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures.

Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.

Farmers’ Market

Our October Farmers’ Market marked the 8th year of the school running the Bonbeach Farmers’ Market. Thank you to everyone who came out on Sunday, it was a fantastic day with 60 stalls and 1298 adults through the gates. This month, our preschool families volunteered for shifts on the gates, set up and pack up. Thank you to these families for your support, $500 from the day will be going towards the preschool.

We would also like to thank Organic Bay Distillery who donated 10% of their sales on the day to the school to celebrate the markets 8th birthday. The school received $300 which is greatly appreciated and will go towards our current fundraising efforts for an additional bike shed for our students.

Thank you to:

Preschool parents – Charlotte, Susanne, Owen, Justin, Giselle, Rotem, Collete, Nick, Poppy, Alison, Mel, Judy, Tiff, Rachel, Fiona, George, Tash and our committee members – Amy D, Anita P, Jon C, Jody SC.

Our November Market will be held on Sunday 13th November. We are looking for volunteers across the school to assist with gate collection, set up and pack up. If you are able to assist, please complete the Google form https://forms.gle/qrCZpr5H9UkGk5W29

We are also looking for Year 6 families to assist on the BBQ to raise money to go towards Year 6 graduation. If you are able to assist on the BBQ, please complete the Google form (link above).

Class requests for next year

There is a great deal of work by all the teachers to ensure that the social and academic needs of all our students are catered for when putting grades together for the following year.

If you have a sound academic or social reason to request a specific grade for next year, please send a written request to Mr Jones or Ms Roolker before Friday 28th October.

N.B. Late requests will not be considered.

Sunsmart Hats

We have noticed that some students are not wearing sunsmart hats. It is extremely important that, as well as the face, the ears and the back of the neck are protected from the sun. Students who are not wearing suitable hats, will be directed to play in shaded areas.

This is in line with our Sunsmart policy and for the students’ safety.

Even Bodhi tries to do the right thing!

Smile Squad

The Smile Squad is a free dental service that visits the schools in Victoria doing dental checks on students. Unfortunately, COVID19 has prevented this service over the past 2 years and lack of qualified staff has hindered their service this year. They feel that these issues will be overcome so that they can offer their services next year.

In the meantime, they have provided free dental kits for every student here. These will be sent home with the students this week.

regards

Performing Arts News

“It’s beginning to look (and sound) a lot like Christmas….”  Especially here in our Bonbeach Primary School Performing Arts classes.  Each class will learn a Christmas song and dance, looking mainly at the art of line dancing, and dancing in unison.  Grades 5 & 6 will also focus on body percussion, using hitting and slapping various parts of their body in different rhythms to create an accompaniment as they sing. Grades 3 & 4 will participate in a bucket drumming ensemble, providing a drum accompaniment for a well-known piece of Christmas music. Grades 1 & 2 will study the history of ‘Call and Response’ music and prepare a ‘Call and Response’ Christmas song, that has a fun Christmas feel to it. Preps are preparing their Graduation songs, as well as some Christmas songs that they will sing and play along to with percussion instruments. It is such a great experience to enter into the joy and spirit of Christmas through music and dance!

Athletics

Last term, we held the House Athletics Day for grades 3-6. This day acts as trials for our District Athletics team. We had just over 50 students make the District Athletics team this year (first time it’s been held since 2019) and from that, 19 students were successful in their event(s) and will go on to compete in Divisional next week.

There will be a Prep-Grade 2 athletics fun day later this term to be held at school. More information will be provided on Compass and in the newsletter soon.
